BiographyWolf Robe Hunt (1905-1977) Acoma Pueblo

Wolf Robe Hunt (aka Wayne Henry Hunt) was born at Acoma Pueblo, the son of Morning Star, potter and weaver, and Edward Hunt, Chief of the Delight Makers and medicine man. He attended Albuquerque High School and took private art lessons from famous Albuquerque artist, Carl Redin.

Wolf Robe Hunt was a Native American painter, illustrator, silversmith and sculptor of the Acoma nation. He ran the Arrowood Trading Post in Catoosa, Oklahoma, across the highway from the Blue Whale water structure.

He lived in Catoosa from 1905 to 1977 and illustrated The Dancing Horses of Acoma, and Other Acoma Indian Stories by Helen Rushmore, published in 1963.

Hunt moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and opened his own Indian arts shop there. He also studied art under Frank Vonderlachen in Tulsa. He passed away in 1977 in Tulsa.

Hunt painted in the traditional Indian School style—single figure or multiples, no background imagery and little or no ground plane.
