Kha'p'oo Owinge (Santa Clara Pueblo), 1915-1998
Teofilo Tafoya received his B.A. degree in 1941 and M.A. in 1956 in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. He was a teacher and/or Art Director at the Albuquerque, Phoenix, Pine Ridge, SD, and Jemez Pueblo Indian Schools. Tafoya was a member of First Baptist Church and also a past member and board director of the All Faiths' Receiving Home. He was co-founder and chairman of the Council of American Indians; and a member of the 1st Executive Officers of United Nations Association. Mr. Tafoya was the vice-chairman and secretary of the All-Indian Pueblo Council and the co-founder of the Indian Village, O-We-Ga-Yea, at the New Mexico State Fair. He exhibited works of art at the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial in Gallup, the Santa Fe Art Museum, the U.S. Department of Interior in Washington, D.C., and the Philbrook Art Museum in Tulsa, OK, and numerous private showings.
