BiographyClyde Otipoby, a retired art educator of the Ponca City public schools system, was born in Clinton Indian Hospital in Clinton in January 1940. Otipoby is a member of the Comanche Nation. He moved with his family from Zuni, N. M. to Chilocco Indian School in 1947. His high school education was in Newkirk where he graduated in 1958. He graduated in 1960 from Arkansas City Junior College. Otipoby joined the United States Air Force in 1960 where he served as an illustrator until he was honorably discharged in 1964.Prior to his Air Force duty, he served in the Oklahoma National Guard. After his discharge, Otipoby continued his education at Oklahoma State University where he received a bachelors degree in art education.He taught one year in Moreland, before returning to teach in the Ponca City School system where he taught elementary art until his retirement in 2002. He is presently working out of his studio, producing pottery and paintings and showing throughout the year.Person TypeIndividual
