Susie Santiago Billy was born in 1885. She married Cruz Billy, a leader at the Hopland Rancheria, in 1900. One of their children was Ignatius, father of weaver and guest curator Susan Billy. The basket collection of Billy was said to have inspired Susan Billy to learn the art of Pomo basketry.
