Drawing functions as the foundation of Scott Fraser’s practice, which includes still lifes, installations, and small works. Featuring surreal juxtapositions of everyday objects, his extremely detailed still lifes are informed by his extensive study of human anatomy. Most of his paintings begin as small thumbnail sketches that resemble works of architectural draughtmanship. “In figuring line, volume, and perspective, I do lots of adjusting in the stage before transferring the drawing to a panel for my painting,” he says. “I rarely do a large work without extensive pre-study work.”
