BiographyFree-lance designer, advertising and commercial artist, sculptor, bead worker, and painter.Jerry Ingram (b.1941), Choctaw/Cherokee, has long lived in New Mexico. He has always attempted to capture in his work what it was like in the 'old days'. His fascination with Northern Plains Indians has had a strong influence on his paintings.
Born in Battiest, Oklahoma, part of the Choctaw nation. He was raised on a farm in southeast Oklahoma by his Choctaw mother and his Cherokee father. His great-grandparents had walked to the Indian Territory from North Carolina on the infamous Trail of Tears. Jerry Ingram attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Sante Fe, New Mexico, before receiving a B.A. degree from Oklahoma State Technical Institute in 1966. By then he was already accepting art commissions and soon began to receive awards for his work. In 1967 he moved to New Mexico, where he has continued to paint while establishing himself as an important graphic designer. He has also worked as an illustrator.
