European art has long been an important part of the Philbrook Collection, particularly in several key areas. A core group of paintings given by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation consists of outstanding examples of Italian Renaissance art from the fourteenth to eighteenth centuries. In 1947, Oklahoma collector Laura A. Clubb donated numerous nineteenth-century paintings, predominantly by French Academic and Barbizon School artists. Additional holdings include English portraits, portrait miniatures, and significant works on paper, and the collection continues to grow in ways that both complement and extend existing strengths.
