Paulita Tenorio Pacheco

Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo) (Fire Clan), b. 1943
BiographySpecializes in hand coiled traditional Santo Domingo pottery, using the pottery making methods of their ancient ancestors. The clay and other natural pigments are gathered within their pueblo. Then, the clay is cleaned, mixed, hand coiled, shaped, painted, and fired the traditional way, outdoors.

Paulita and Gilbert Pacheco practiced the traditional Santo Domingo craft of heishi making until the early 1970s when Paulita's eyes began to give out. As they both came from potting families, they turned to pottery and have made a successful career of it.

Paulita is the sister of famed Santo Domingo potter Robert Tenorio. They both share in the potting but Gilbert does all of the pottery designing and Paulita fills in the designs
