BiographyMeert was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1905. 1910 His family Immigrated to the US. 1920–1929Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, KS. 1932-Art Students League, New York, NY. In 1938, Meert created WPA murals for the Treasury Department at the Spencer, IN and Marceline and Mt. Vernon, MO post offices. Invited by Thomas Hart Benton to teach at the Kansas City Art Institute. 1940Honorable Award, Hallmark Competition. 1944 became a member of the American Artists Congress. In 1950, he won the J.Henry Scheidt Memorial Prize, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia. In 1980, he became a Ward of the State. In 1985, he won thePollock-Krasner Foundation Award.
